The St James takes the outline of a gentlemen's club sofa and builds it as a commercial banquette. The back stands 135 cm high, deep-buttoned in dark green velvet on a diamond grid of about 20 cm and edged with antique brass nails. At each end the back sweeps down in a continuous scroll arm from full height to seat level, its edge finished in a fine brass strip that follows the curve.
The effect is a private drawing room, but the piece is built and shipped like contract seating: made to length, in sections that join on site. It is suited to members' clubs, hotel bars, whisky rooms and dining rooms with dark panelling and low lamps.
A deeper 62 cm seat and slightly lower 44 cm seat height give it a lounge feel; for formal dining at standard tables we can raise the seat to 46 cm. The frame is hardwood with a sprung seat and the buttons are tied through to hold under heavy use.
