Questions
What is a couture banquette?
A couture banquette is a built-in or freestanding upholstered bench seat made to the exact dimensions of a room, with tailoring-level detail: channel or biscuit stitching set out to the run length, continuous piping, and integrated timber or brass trims. Maison Banquette (a line by EASEN Commercial Furniture) draws each one from your plan and makes it to order in Foshan.
How tall should a banquette back be in a fine-dining restaurant?
Most restaurant banquettes have an overall back height of 107 cm (42 in). Fine-dining rooms often go higher, 115–135 cm, to give acoustic and visual privacy, while open rooms and window lines use 85–95 cm to keep sightlines clear. We confirm back height against your ceiling height, lighting and the view from the entrance.
What seat height and depth do you use?
Our standard seat height is 46 cm (about 18 in) to the top of the compressed cushion, matched to a 74–76 cm dining table. Seat depth is typically 50–56 cm for upright dining and up to 60 cm for lounge-style booths. Overall depth including the back is usually 60–75 cm depending on back thickness and rake.
Can you work with our own fabric or leather (COM/COL)?
Yes. We accept customer's own material and customer's own leather. Send the specification sheet first so we can check width, repeat, rub rating and fire performance, then ship the material to our factory. We calculate the metres or square feet needed from the shop drawings, including pattern matching across channels.
Do your banquettes meet UK fire regulations?
For UK contract use we specify fire-retardant foams and fabrics intended to meet BS 7176 at the required hazard level, which for most restaurants is medium hazard (BS 5852 cigarette, match and crib 5). For California we specify to CAL TB 117-2013. Test reports are supplied for the specific item where available. Always confirm requirements with your fire officer or authority having jurisdiction.
Where are Maison Banquette pieces manufactured?
Maison Banquette is a line by EASEN Commercial Furniture, and every piece is made in our own production base in Lecong, Foshan, China, then shipped direct. Working factory-direct is what allows bespoke stitch layouts, metalwork and joinery to be drawn and made by one team.
How long does a bespoke banquette take?
Typically 30–45 days for standard designs and 45–60 days for custom work, counted from approval of the shop drawings and any sample, plus sea-freight transit to your port. Complex curves, hand-nailing or embossed leather can extend that. Your quote confirms the schedule for your specific order.
Do you make a sample before production?
On request, yes. For most couture projects we recommend either a full pre-production section or a smaller stitch and piping mock-up in the final fabric, so the design team can sign off channel width, welt colour, foam firmness and timber finish before the full run is cut.
What is the difference between channel tufting and biscuit tufting?
Channel tufting divides the back into parallel stuffed columns or rows, separated by sewn lines; biscuit tufting divides it into a grid of square or rectangular pads, also by sewn lines, without buttons. Diamond or Chesterfield tufting uses buttons pulled into the foam. Channel and biscuit are easier to keep clean in a restaurant because there are no button wells.
Can brass details stay bright in a busy restaurant?
Solid brass will patinate where it is handled. If you want a stable finish we recommend lacquered brass or a PVD (physical vapour deposition) coated finish, which resists fingerprints and abrasion far better. For a living finish that darkens naturally, specify unlacquered brass and accept that it will vary along the run.
Can banquettes be curved or fitted around columns?
Yes. We make horseshoe booths, curved runs following a wall radius and sections that wrap a column. Send us measured dimensions or a survey drawing; curved frames are built on a jig from your radius so the channels and timber cap follow the curve evenly.
Do you sell to private homes?
Our work is aimed at restaurants, hotels, clubs and other commercial interiors, and our construction, fire specification and packing are set up for contract projects. Designers working on a large private residence are welcome to send a brief, but we quote on a project basis.
How are banquettes delivered and installed?
Each section is wrapped, corner-protected and crated for sea freight, labelled to match the plan. Long runs are made in jointed sections with connecting bolts so they fit through doors and lifts. We supply fixing details and drawings for your local installer; we can quote FOB, CIF or DDP.
What does a bespoke banquette cost?
We quote per project, because cost depends on run length, back construction, covering, metalwork and quantity. Channel and biscuit backs cost less than hand-nailed or embossed work; COM can reduce cost. Send a plan with dimensions and preferred materials and we will return an itemised quote.
What is your minimum order?
Minimums are low for contract orders and confirmed per design. A single signature horseshoe booth can be made, but most clients order a full room so that banquettes, end caps and chairs share materials. Mixed-item container loads are welcome.
